yourself please see the notes below.
Clear weeds from the area to
be turfed. Existing turf should be removed by cutting under the grass
with a spade or for a quick and easy option hire a kirb-line mini turf
stripper (available from most good hire shops). You also need to
make sure that the area is cleared of any debris, stones.
If the
area requires excavation,
this should be done next, soil needs to be turned over to a depth of
15 cm, this can be achieved by digging over the area or by using a
rotovator.
After digging the ground over, the soil
should be firmed; by treading all over the lawn area, If you have not
'levelled' a piece of ground before A straight edge, like a plank of
wood will prove a useful aid. Do not be afraid to stand on or work
from the area that you are levelling. The soil should have been firmed
enough to withstand your weight.
Adequate drainage is essential for a
successful lawn. If your garden soil
is 'heavy' then don't be afraid to incorporate a fair quantity of
sharp sand. It can be incorporated into the soil by piercing with a
fork. This will give better drainage.
For best results A pre-turfing
fertiliser should now be applied and raked into the soil.
